About Us
Just over 3 years ago, my love for children inspired me to make these stunning life-like dolls. I came across these dolls when I did research on eczema as my son has severe eczema. I very badly wanted one of these babies but it was very expensive at the time as no one in South Africa that I knew of was making these dolls! (I didn't even know you could). Then one of my friends asked me why I don't make them myself, and so I began.
In 2007 my hobby changed into a business when the YOU Magazine did an article on my babies. I have four girls in my maternity ward and a shop manager (all of whom are qualified reborning artists). I also have branches countrywide. In 2008 I did my teachers course in Michigan and am very proud to say we are all certified reborning teachers. We just passed the 2200 mark of dolls made and are still going strong.
Our dolls are made of very soft vinyl and are therefore unbreakable. They are hand-painted with a heat-set paint and each hair is hand-rooted with the best quality mohair, giving the effect of hair that is still busy growing. We are very strict on detail and make sure you can see each little vain on the body. We put weights in the body for that real baby feeling. All our babies come dressed and wrapped in a blanket with a dummy, a birth certificate and a taking-care letter just like a real baby.
We are very proud to say that we have sole distribution rights for Once so Real in Germany.
We can make look-a-likes from photgraphs that parents give us of their babies.
We have also had a few funny incidences with our babies, where people mistake them for real ones. Once we had a situation where a policemen broke into one of my branch's cars to "save" the babies. We have had people talking baby language with our dolls. One of my clients were nearly locked up for child abuse when she put her doll through the x-ray machine at the airport.
